Northern glow

Canadian photographer Michael Ericsson captured this beautiful view of the northern lights glowing over Tibbitt Lake in the Northwest Territories on the night of Aug. 6. August's solar storms sparked auroral displays as far south as Colorado and Nebraska.

Shadow on the moon

NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter pointed its camera to capture a dramatic sunrise view of the moon's Tycho Crater on June 10. The resulting image, released June 30, highights Tycho's 9.3-mile-wide (15-kilometer-wide) central peak complex and its long, looming shadow. The summit is elevated 1.2 miles (2 kilometers) from the crater floor.

나사(NASA)의 달 정찰위성이 드라마틱한 일출 장면을 포착했다. 6월 10일 달의 티코 크레이터 위로 해가 뜨면서 생긴 멋진 장면이다. 6월 30일날 발표된 이 최종 이미지에는 티코의 폭 15km에 이르는 중심의 꼭대기에서 나타난 어렴풋한 그림자가 담겨있다. 이 꼭대기는 크레이터 바닥으로부터 2km 높이에 있다.
